Pirate Cultures is a transdisciplinary research project. Based on a series of self-organized initiatives, it tells of unusual urban routes, digital spheres free from existing power relations, the circumvention of conventional media infrastructures, open source systems and peer production. Counter and net cultures grow with the informal city and complement it. They create points of connection between physical and virtual spaces.

Together with actors from Mz* Baltazar’s Laboratory, Kollektiv Raumstation and RAD Performance, we are looking for critical-creative answers to precarious living and working conditions. It’s about reconquest, reappropriation, hijacking and hacking, DIY cultures, commoning, care and the (technology-supported) self-organization of solidarity networks.
